When you are unemployed, not having as much money as you would like can get very frustrating. Sometimes there are times you see something you really want but know you shouldn’t buy. Being unemployed doesn’t mean you can’t buy nice things, it just takes longer to save up for it. Here are some tips on how I save money while I’m unemployed.
Clothes- Clothes can be very expensive. My tip to you is to not buy the top of the line clothing. In reality, if you are unemployed you probably won’t be able to afford it unless you saved up for it. To be honest, top of the line clothing is not necessary. I am not saying to go buy rags, just not the most expensive piece of clothing you can find. There is no shame in going to a thrift store if you are having trouble making ends meet.
Friends- When I hang out with friends I do activities that don’t cost money. When I hang out with my friend Karly I will go to her house. We will either go on walks, play a game, or watch a movie.
Stay offline- When you have an Amazon account or any online shopping account you may be tempted to buy stuff. Unless you can afford it stay off those websites.
Make a list- When you go to the store, we tend to buy a bunch of stuff we don’t actually need. If you are unemployed that can be a huge problem. What do you do? You need to make a list and try to stick to it because if you don’t the list is pointless. If you buy a couple of unnecessary things that aren’t on the list, that is okay but try not to stray from it too much. The bottom line here is don’t buy things you can’t afford.
Shopping Sprees- We all get stressed, I know I do but I don’t go on shopping sprees every time I am. I would be broke if I did. You need to find a healthier way to deal with it, maybe working out if you can or meditating. Another thing you want to stay away from when you are super stressed is food. You can seriously eat an entire bag of chips if you have super high-stress levels.
Volunteer- If you are struggling to find something to do during the day that doesn’t cost money while you are looking for employment, I would suggest looking into volunteering. It is a great way to help the community and companies or charities are always looking for extra help from people.
Home workouts- Nowadays there are so many ways you can get fit you don’t even need to go to a gym anymore. Most people who are unemployed don’t want to pay for that unnecessary expense. There is a lot you can do through YouTube. You can also go for a walk, or if you are in a wheelchair, you can take your wheelchair around the neighborhood.
