One year ago today Life with Spina Bifida was born! I’m so excited to have reached this milestone and so proud of myself for all the things I have accomplished this year. I may not be crazy-successful but my blog is something I am proud of and I can’t wait to see what the future holds. To celebrate I am going to share with you a few things I have learned in my first year of blogging.
Don’t be afraid to show your personality- I have read so many blogs that are written like an essay. Blog writing and essay writing are not the same thing and should not be written in the same way. Blog writing should be more personable than an essay so bloggers don’t be afraid to loosen up a bit and show people who you really are.
Celebrate the little things- When bloggers reach a milestone the only people who truly understand what it takes to get there are other bloggers. Don’t be afraid to announce your accomplishments just because you feel some of your viewers will not care! Even if some of your viewers aren’t bloggers and probably won’t understand what it takes to get there the ones that are will understand and will celebrate with you.
Most bloggers are nice- In the past, I have struggled to make friends but since I started blogging making friends has been a little easier. Most bloggers are nice and I personally only get an occasional person who is not. If you happen to come across a person who is very rude don’t take it personally most people are not that way!
Check your spam- Do you check your spam? If you are a new blogger you probably aren’t in the habit of checking your spam but here is why you should. Sometimes real comments get marked as spam but aren’t actually spam. You never want to miss out on any comments so always check your spam!
Don’t be too pushy- Asking someone if they would be interested in your blog is one thing but harassing them to visit it is something totally different and will not help you get views. If they don’t want to visit your blog then that is totally up to them. Move on with your life you can’t force someone to visit your blog!
Running a blog is hard- Creating new content at the beginning of your blogging journey is usually easier then it is after you have created 100+posts. Plan your posts ahead of time so when you hit writer’s block you have extra time to come up with an idea.
Utilize your social media accounts- Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, which social media platform do you use? Chances are you use at least one of them so why not utilize it to help you get growth for your blog. Don’t bother making new accounts because if you set up more accounts than you can handle it will get too overwhelming and you will not be able to manage them all!
Running a blog takes a lot of hard work and dedication but it is totally worth it if you stay committed. Since I started my blog I have less stress and anxiety so yes it may be a lot of work but it is totally worth it in the end. As I go into year two I am hoping I am able to accomplish even more than I did my first year. If you have any questions about things I have learned in my first year of blogging please leave them in the comments below!
