How to become a morning person without waking up at ungodly hours!

People who start there day before 2.pm. get more stuff done because they have more daylight hours than people who wake up in the middle of the afternoon. If you want to become a morning person but are currently a night you may be wondering how do I wake up at 4.a.m. and be productive? Well, you don’t at least not immediately! If you make drastic changes like that you will most likely just hit the snooze button!  You can be productive and wake up early without torturing yourself to wake up at ungodly hours by taking a few simple steps.

Start slow-  It is totally possible to become a morning person if you are a night owl you just have to think smart about it. If you are used to waking up at 2.p.m suddenly deciding you are going to wake up at 4 a.m. is unrealistic and may work once or twice but it will not be a long term commitment because your body is not used to waking up at those hours. Set an alarm one or two hours before you would normally wake up and gradually wake up earlier so it won’t seem torturous and you won’t be tempted to hit the snooze button!

Go to bed earlier- Well duh! This sounds pretty obvious but so important if you want to get up earlier. You just can’t expect to wake up earlier if you are going to bed an hour or two before you want to get up. It doesn’t matter how young you are and if you think you can do it you are just like everyone else and your body needs a certain number of hours of sleep a night to function. Yeah, if your young, you may be able to go a couple of days(or even a week) with sleep deprivation but eventually, your body will not be able to take it anymore and you will crash! Set a sleep schedule and try and go to bed around the same time every night(yes, even on weekends) this will help you to establish good sleeping patterns and make it easier to wake up earlier.

Don’t take three-hour naps- If you are taking three-hour naps during the day you will probably not be tired when comes time to go to bed. If you are tired in the middle of the afternoon why not try taking a twenty to thirty-minute power nap to help you recharge and get you through the rest of your day.

Have a nutritious breakfast- If you want to fire up your metabolism it is so important you eat breakfast within thirty minutes to an hour of waking and don’t skip it. Skipping breakfast will make you feel sluggish and not want to do anything because you won’t have the energy so it’s really important you make breakfast a priority. If you want to set yourself up for a successful day be mindful of what you eat because foods that are high in protein such as eggs will give you the energy to take on your day whereas donuts may cause a sugar crash.

Try Peppermint oil- If you are having trouble waking up try diffusing some peppermint oil it will help increase your alertness and wake you up!

Take your vitamins- If you are not getting the right nutrients, not taking your vitamins and you have something such as low iron you will feel extremely tired and it will be very difficult for you to stay awake let alone wake up early! Making sure you are getting your vitamins for the day can be as simple as taking a pill so there are no excuses! Taking your vitamins is extremely important for your overall well-being so make sure you are taking them and making it a priority.

Workout in the morning- Do you workout at night and wonder why it takes you forever to fall asleep. Exercise increases endorphins causing you to become more alert which can sometimes disrupt your sleeping patterns if you are working out late at night. Light exercise such as yoga generally will not disrupt your sleeping patterns but may help you fall asleep but it is never a good idea to do HIIT training late at night if you are want to fall asleep quickly. When you workout in the morning you will sleep better and become more alert making you feeling pumped and ready to take on the rest of your day. When your sleep schedule and workout schedule don’t interfere with each other you will feel better rested and able to get more stuff done. Win-win!

Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate- If you are not staying hydrated you will be more prone to migraines making it nearly impossible to get stuff done. Just like it is incredibly important to not skip meals it is equally important to stay hydrated because once migraine strikes more often than not there isn’t much you can do about it! Yeah, there are over the counter meds that may help but they don’t always work so if you can it is always a good idea to take preventative measures. Have a water bottle with you at all times to help you stay hydrated and avoid any migraine attacks that may have been caused by dehydration. Migraines are no fun and can put you out for several days making you feel like you can’t get anything done so if you can you want to take preventative measures and avoid them at all costs!

It is totally possible to become a morning person without torturing yourself to wake up at crazy hours that are just not realistic for you! You just have to set your priorities and think smart about it and you can totally become a morning person. Sleep is so important for your overall well-being and if you are skimping on sleep because you want to be a morning person you will be very productive because you will not have the energy to get stuff done. Make sure you are getting the proper rest and think realistically about your goals.

I usually wake up between the hours of 6:30 and 8 depending on how much pain I’m in I may not be able to go back to sleep so for me going to bed at normal hours is incredibly important if I want to have a productive day. If you have chronic pain and have a love-hate relationship with sleep going to bed at normal hours is super important because you never know when or if your pain will wake you up in the middle of the night but getting up and doing something when this happens can be a good distraction and take your mind off the pain. You may have no control over the pain so you might as well get up and do something productive right? Are you a morning person? What is your morning routine?
